Searching Calhoun County Civil Dockets
Figure out the filing court first. Circuit Court takes general civil litigation plus any civil matter not assigned elsewhere. Chancery Court covers equity, divorce, probate, guardianship, conservatorship, and other statutory chancery subjects. Justice Court handles small claims up to $3,500 and its own limited civil matters. The official directories list no Calhoun County Court. Never route a civil search to a court that does not exist.
Both district courts use MEC portals for electronic records. PAMEC is the public remote option, a registered read-only service. Registration costs $10 per year. Each search-result page costs $0.20, even a one-page result that matches nothing. The search form sits behind a login. Anonymous users will not find party-name, case-number, date, status, or judge fields.
- Use the complaint, summons, order, or prior filing to identify the court and case number when available.
- Open the proper Circuit or Chancery MEC login and register for PAMEC if public credentials are needed.
- Search with the authenticated controls that the portal displays, keeping the court and case type narrow.
- Read the case header, parties, chronological register, current setting, and newest order.
- Ask the issuing clerk for an older file, a certified record, or a restricted document that is not remotely available.
Note: PAMEC bills by the result page, so broad searches repeated over and over can rack up charges even when no case comes back.
Calhoun Circuit and Chancery Civil
Two district courts split the Calhoun County civil docket trail. Circuit civil cases run through the Third Circuit MEC route. Chancery matters run through the Eighteenth Chancery MEC route. That district also includes Benton, Lafayette, Marshall, and Tippah Counties. The two district structures are separate. The clerk who maintains a Calhoun case remains the starting point. Any docket search still begins there.
| Forum | Civil matters described in the research | Custodian and access route |
|---|---|---|
| Calhoun County Circuit Court | General civil jurisdiction and lower-court appeals. | Calhoun County Circuit Clerk and Third Circuit MEC. |
| Calhoun County Chancery Court | Equity, divorce, probate, guardianship, conservatorship, and land-title-related matters. | Calhoun County Chancery Clerk and Eighteenth Chancery MEC. |
| Calhoun Justice Court | Small claims of $3,500 or less and limited civil matters. | Justice Court Clerk, not the MEC docket route. |
That split explains why one county name will not produce a single civil register. To follow a Calhoun case, go through the clerk who keeps that court's record.
Inside a Calhoun County Civil Docket
A civil docket sheet is the chronological record of a lawsuit or petition. The header lists the case number, court, filing date, case style, status, and judge or assigned court when those appear. A parties block names each person's role, such as plaintiff, defendant, petitioner, or respondent. Those labels only describe position in the case, not whether a claim has merit. Attorney details may be restricted. Anonymous users cannot open a Calhoun civil case file.
| Case information | Case number, filing court, filing date, style, status, and any displayed assigned court. |
|---|---|
| Service and response | Summons or citation, service record, answer, and other responsive pleading when entered. |
| Chronological register | Motions, notices, discovery-related entries, mediation or ENE activity, orders, hearings, and trial events. |
| Setting | A hearing, motion, trial, or term event when the case-level docket exposes it. |
| Disposition | Judgment, agreed judgment, default, nonsuit, dismissal, transfer, appeal, satisfaction, or related post-judgment activity. |
An order can be text-only under MEC procedures and still carry full legal effect. A PDF is not guaranteed for every order. A Final Judgment Issued flag is just a status signal too. A certified judgment must come from the clerk.
Calhoun Land Index Is Not a Docket
The Calhoun County Chancery Clerk's land-record index is not a civil case docket. It is an official land-record route, handy for deeds and land-index research, but it cannot replace a search of the Chancery civil register. The Chancery Clerk's own disclaimer says the online index is not the official land-record index. The official one is the index at the courthouse. That warning matters most when a civil dispute involves property but what you truly need are court filings, orders, or a case setting. The official vendor-hosted Calhoun land-record search presents a land-index interface for that purpose.
Treat that interface as part of a records-routing comparison, not a shortcut to a Calhoun County civil docket. For the case register itself, use Eighteenth Chancery MEC or the Chancery Clerk.
Civil Case Types on the Docket
Circuit and Chancery do not carry identical case types. Circuit Court is the general-jurisdiction civil forum, apart from matters assigned exclusively elsewhere. Chancery is the equity court for divorce, probate, guardianship, conservatorship, and statutory chancery subjects. Justice Court offers a lower-court route for small claims of $3,500 or less. Pick that route first. It saves you from the wrong MEC district or the wrong clerk.
Once filed, a civil case usually moves from a complaint or petition to service, an answer, motions and notices, a hearing or trial setting, and a final result. Later docket entries may involve costs, an abstract, writ, garnishment, payment activity, appeal, or satisfaction. Event labels on a Calhoun civil docket beyond the MEC flags require lawful PAMEC access.
Calhoun Chancery Status Flags
Eighteenth Chancery MEC uses labels as a local reading cue. They help you read a Calhoun County civil docket. Flags include MOTREF, CASREF, MEDIATION, ENE, GAL, EX PARTE, Minor_Child, SEALED, STAYED, Trial Pending, Partial_Pmt, Pending_Fee, and Legacy Complete or Incomplete. A flag marks a status or management issue. It is not the full legal meaning of the case. For context, you still need the chronological register and the latest order.
- MOTREF
- An observed Chancery MEC label associated with motion-referral activity; its exact local workflow should be read from the docket and orders.
- ENE
- Early neutral evaluation, an observed Chancery flag that can identify a case-management event.
- GAL
- An observed label for guardian ad litem activity. Its presence does not make every document remotely public.
- Partial_Pmt
- An observed payment-related status, not a replacement for the amount or terms stated in the court record.

Civil Docket Settings and Hearings
A Calhoun County civil docket can list several things. It may show a hearing, a motion, a trial, or a term setting. None of those entries is a result. Each one marks a court event on a schedule. Read it next to the newest notice or order in the file. A continuance, reset, or replacement notice may follow an earlier entry. Whatever entry carries the latest effective date is the one to confirm with the court. The public Third Circuit calendar works by term and category. It does not list every civil setting.
For Circuit or Chancery matters, start with the authenticated case docket. Then call the right clerk if anything looks unclear. That applies if the courtroom or attendance method is missing, or if a date seems stale. Calhoun posts no public reset policy. It posts no local coordinator numbers, no remote-hearing links, and no closure procedure. Confirm those details with the court rather than reading them into a calendar page.
Calhoun Civil Cases Before MEC
Calhoun County Circuit Court and Chancery Court both moved onto MEC on March 20, 2023. Each portal runs MEC software within a CM/ECF V4.0 environment. That date is a technology milestone and nothing more. It does not promise that older civil cases were digitized. Nor does it mean a pre-2023 file has vanished. Older material may still sit in clerk files. It may also rest in docket books, indexes, or archived paper series. For electronic records, use the official Eighteenth Chancery MEC login, which requires an account.
The official Eighteenth Chancery page marks where public access ends and an account begins. An older paper case, a certified judgment, or a record hidden from remote access calls for a focused request. Direct it to the Circuit or Chancery Clerk. Calhoun publishes no copy, certification, search, or mailing fees for these records. Ask the clerk for the current charge.
Civil Docket Access Rules
Remote PAMEC access, once you register, covers only non-restricted electronic docket sheets and documents. Free electronic viewing at the clerk's office during regular hours is the documented alternative. A public account may show a case header or docket sheet. It can still hide the restricted documents behind it. Family and minor-child matters demand extra care. Minor_Child and GAL appear as Chancery flags. A flag alone does not tell a remote user what may be viewed.
Public access limit: The Mississippi Judiciary MEC materials describe remote public access to non-restricted records and restrictions for good cause. Mississippi Public Records Act §25-61-5 addresses public-record access under reasonable procedures and exemptions. Youth Court records involving children may be restricted under Mississippi Code §43-21-263.
Sealed, restricted, expunged, and confidential material can be limited or unavailable in any form. When a case does not appear, check the basics. Look at the court, the county, the date, and the spelling. Then ask the clerk whether the case predates MEC or carries a restriction. A missing electronic result is not the final word. It never proves that no court record exists.
